Tanya's Interests

Hey ya’ll,

I’m a stylist at Solutions Bridal in Winter Park – soon to be Orlando.  I received my degree in May from University of Florida in Landscape Architecture.  I bring a “designers eye” to the team at Solutions Bridal.  While my personality is drawn more toward an edgy and modern style gown in the shop – I also have an appreciation the timeless and vintage style dresses.  Your wedding dress should fit your personality.  The accessories (veil, headpiece, jewelry, sash, and more) can transform a dress and customize the look.

One of my favorite dresses in the store right now is this Anne Barge gown.

Anne Barge Black Label Gown

I love the fabric, and the lightness of it would make it perfect for a beach wedding.  It is simple, modern, and chic.

A little more about me:

My interests include painting, drawings, digital art and design and pretty much anything that involves creativity and architecture.  I recently expanded my artistic interest into music and started playing the piano.  My favorite music to play is Phantom of the Opera and Lady Gaga – that might seem like quite a jump, but Gaga’s performance art is very “Phantom-esque” and I love her!

I love to read. I have over 150 books in my apartment, and I read about 5 books at the same time.  I like a lot of different authors, but Joshilyn Jackson is probably my favorite author.  She is from a small southern town (like me) and she writes, in great detail, about the strange and clannish behavior that only takes place within the confines of “small town” social structure.   Elizabeth Gilbert is also a great writer, but has a completely different style than Joshilyn.  She wrote Eat, Pray, Love and Committed.  She’s an intelligent, self-sufficient, independent,  and funny woman who has written about her adventures in love,  and lack there of.  I also like science fiction and environmental theory novels – yes, I’m a big dork.  Jared Diamond’s “Collapse:How Societies Choose to Fail or Succeed” and Alan Weisman’s “The World Without Us” are incredible reads.  I would love to be a writer some day – I’ve read books and thought ‘I could do this’!

Another favorite hobby of mine is kick-boxing.  In my opinion, you’ve never lived until you’ve turned on Christina Aguliera’s “Fighter”, put on your Everlast gloves, and punch someone as hard as you can after round-house kicking them in the face.  (They are wearing pads, of course.) Try that before you’re wedding day! :)

10 More Random Facts About Me:

  1. My favorite fashion designer is Alexander McQueen.  I love his work – and his shoes!  He was so incredibly talented.
  2. I’m 5′10″ and I still wear 5″ heels.
  3. My Dad is a farmer and I grew up on a peanut farm.  He took me fishing almost everyday in our irrigation pond – I still love to fish.
  4. I started playing golf in 2007, and worked in golf course design in Asheville, NC in 2008.
  5. I know the common name and botanical name of most plants that I see.
  6. My favorite movie is King Kong.  :)   I love that ape.
  7. When I was a kid and people asked what I wanted to be when I grew up – I wanted to be an archeologist.
  8. I have a Southern accent.  Everyone thinks that I am from Georgia or Tennessee, but I’m from North Florida (The Panhandle).  My Southern accent has actually thinned out quit a bit.  When I first went away to school I wondered why no one was laughing at my jokes.  I later found out that people couldn’t understand what I was saying until the twang had subsided a bit in the Central Florida atmosphere.
  9. Due to design school, I am a whiz at the computer.  I can type and click the mouse at the same time.  I didn’t even realize that I was doing it until someone pointed it out.  And Shannen gawks at my fast typing skills.  Ha!
  10. I have a personal website to show my design work and tell people a little bit more about me: http://www.tanyaldouglas.com/ Check it out!  :)
