I have never met a bride who doesn’t say they really want the perfect hair and makeup for their big day. Whether you are having your makeup done by someone else professionally, or doing it yourself, I think it’s important to consider a few things before diving in!

  • Use an oil-free foundation (unless your skin is very dry) that is as close to your own skin tone as possible. Test by applying a bit to the jaw area, then look outside in natural sunlight to see if the color blends in. Foundation coverage ranges from sheer to heavy; buy according to how even- toned your bare skin is.
  • Undereye concealer covers undereye circles, blemishes, etc. It should be a shade lighter than your foundation.
  • Powder- this is important! Set your foundation with a loose translucent powder. Then, have an oil-free pressed powder compact with you for touching up a shiny nose, forehead, etc.
  • Eyes- you can’t go wrong with soft earth-tone eyeshadows. Use a light, off-white shade to highlight the browbone, and perhaps a taupe or peach on the lid. Blend well! Stay away from frosted eyeshadows as they don’t always photograph well. Use a black, waterproof mascara on the top lashes, and a waterproof pencil to line the top lid. Try navy, charcoal, or dark brown for lining. If needed, fill in the brows with pencil or powder in a shade that is lighter than the hair (it blends in easier). Be careful not to over-do the brows.
  • Blush lightly with a powder or creme blush blended into the apple of the cheeks. Just smile, you can’t miss them!
  • Lipstick should not be too dark or bright, but should be in the same color family as the blush, whether rosy or peachy. Stay away from drab browns, they’re too dulling when you’re wearing white. For lip color that lasts, try a lip pencil in a matching shade, fill in the lips, then apply lipstick over it. You can also find “indelible” lipsticks that
stay on and on– just make sure you really like the color before applying it! Finish with a drop of lip gloss in the center of the bottom lip for added fullness and shine.

Shabby Chic Inspiration

August 25, 2010

I was researching around for some neat shabby chic inspiration to share with all of you beautiful brides, and wedding wire happens to have some awesome inspiration!

Pink lemonade and midnight. I would have never come up with that combination on my own, but oh my goodness, it’s beautiful! Here is some perfect inspiration for these colors using the shabby chic wedding theme.

The beautiful calligraphy and the ribbon used to hang the the placecards are a perfect combination of shabby and chic.

The next one that I found on wedding wire is the combination of juniper and Turkish rose. It’s stunning.

This board is very inspiring in my opinion. It doesn’t get any more shabby or chic. The table settings are perfectly elegant and chic, while the favors are little nested “eggs” and perfectly shabby. Love this!

The last shabby and chic inspiration for today is a pink and black current combination.

I absolutely love the fun cake stands and mason jars used here. I think that shabby chic can sometimes get out of control, but this is stunning!!

Hope you enjoy!

It is so important to let your guests know how much they mean to you and how thankful you are that they were able to make it to your wedding. How can this be accomplished? There are tons of creative ways that you can make your guests feel loved and appreciated. Aside from having great food and drinks to please your guests, you can show them the love by giving them each a little something to take home with them.

For an outdoor wedding in the middle of the summer heat, you can give your guests each a personal hand fan to take with them. That way it serves as their favor, and keeps them cool during the ceremony.

Think about the season of the wedding and the style of your event when planning for your favors. It never hurts to do something that goes along with your overall theme, and it’s always great to give your guests something practical. Practical favors will be kept and remembered. For instance, you can get cookie cutters that say “cut out for love,” and your guests will think of your wedding each time they use the cookie cutter.

Be creative and thoughtful and your guests will leave knowing that no matter the distance or effort it took for them to get there, it was well worth it! Show them that you care!

The Bridal Bouquet

August 9, 2010

The bridal bouquet serves more than one purpose during the wedding ceremony. The true meaning of the bridal bouquet has sadly been lost over time. Traditionally, the bride carries her bouquet as a symbol of purity and fertility. Although a lot of brides are unaware of this tradition and the meaning of the bouquet, most brides still carry their bouquet for aesthetic purposes.

It is important to pick the right size for your bridal bouquet. If you are small framed, petite girl, it is important not to have a bouquet that overtakes you. If you are a taller girl, you can have a proportional bouquet. For aesthetic purposes, take time to choose the perfect flowers for your big day!

An Untraditional Wedding

August 7, 2010

It’s not that often that you hear a bride say, “I really just want a very UNtraditional wedding.” I sometimes wonder what it would be like to have a wedding that is totally opposite of traditional. What might that look like?

Well for starters, you can start by being untraditional through your wedding gown choice. When I think opposite of traditional, I think something bold and colorful instead of white or ivory. But lets think of it in an even more untraditional sense. What if you decide not to do the big white gown, but instead you wear a simple sundress, or white pant suit? Maybe  that’s for you. You can definitely get creative when you are trying to go for a very untraditional look for the attire of the wedding.

The next thing to think about when planning your wedding is location. Traditionally, brides choose to get married in a church or somewhere that will accomidate a ceremony and reception. But why not plan your untraditional wedding at the zoo or a theme park?

This might sound crazy to the traditional bride, but for those of you who just love to live outside of the box, don’t be afraid to carry that through for your wedding as well!

Have you ever wondered if it would be okay to include your  pet in your wedding? People are doing it all the time! You have probably most commonly heard of dogs serving as ring bearers, but you are in for a real treat. I read on “Intimate Weddings Blog” that owls can also serve as perfect ring bearers. How great is that!? Another great way to incorporate a pet or your favorite animal would be to ride into or away from your wedding on horseback.

Having your pet play a role in your wedding isn’t for everyone, but for those of you that love this idea, it’s totally an okay thing to do! Just be sure that you trust your pet well enough to know they will get the job done properly. If hiring someone to bring in an animal for your special occasion, be sure to do your research in finding a trusted company!

On July 31, Chelsea Clinton, daughter of Hillary and Bill Clinton, will be tying the knot with Marc Mezvinsky. Speculation has lead us all to believe that the wedding could cost nearly $2 million. Reports have also said that the high-profile wedding will be held at the Astor Courts estate in Rhinebeck, New York. CBS news has reported that the event will be hosted by three different catering companies, one for the cocktail hour, one for the main course, and one for late night snacks. The estimated cost for the catering alone is said to be $750,000.

There are debates on what gown Chelsea will be wearing, but she has been rumored to have purchased an Oscar de la Renta, but there is speculation now that she will be wearing a Vera Wang. It has been rumored that President Obama, Barbra Streisand, Stephen Spielberg, and Oprah Winfrey will be present for this extravagant wedding. I will follow up with the real details once the wedding is over and the photos have leaked!
